Enable higher average output power at constant spectral compliance

ANALOG PREDISTORTION FOR E-BAND

Unlocking Usable Output Power at mm-Wave

E-band systems are increasingly limited not by peak power, but by linearity under wide bandwidth and high-order modulation. Gotmic AB offers an on-chip Analog Predistortion (APD) solution designed specifically to address this bottleneck in real E-band transmitters.

The Problem APD Solves at E-band

In high-capacity E-band links:

Wide RF bandwidths (approx. 2 GHz)
High-order modulation (64–1024 QAM)
Strict spectral masks

force power amplifiers to operate with significant back-off. The consequences:

Lower average output power
Reduced link distance or throughput
Poor energy efficiency
Gotmic’s APD Approach

Linearization in the RF domain. Gotmic’s APD:

Applies a controlled inverse non-linearity before the PA
Compensates AM-AM and AM-PM distortion
Is wideband by nature
Operates with negligible latency

Unlike digital predistortion:

No high-speed DAC expansion
No power-hungry DSP
Is wideband by nature
No baseband bandwidth explosion
Tunable, Adaptable, and Practical

The APD platform is designed to adapt to process variation, temperature drift, frequency of operation, and different modulation formats. Control parameters allow for optimization of linearity vs efficiency, re-tuning in production or deployed systems, and maintaining performance over the lifecycle.

System-Level Impact

Using APD in an E-band transmit chain enables:

Higher average output power at constant spectral compliance
Operation closer to PA saturation
Improved energy efficiency
Increased link margin or data rate
Typical Applications
Defense and secure communications
Space ground links
High-reliability point-to-point systems

DESIGN FOR THROUGHPUT. NOT BACK-OFF.

ANALOG PREDISTORTION FOR W-BAND

Enhancing Linearity and Dynamic Range in Radar Front-Ends

Linearization where radar systems need it most. W-band radar systems are increasingly constrained by PA non-linearity, AM-PM distortion and reduced dynamic range under real operating conditions. Gotmic’s Analog Predistortion (APD) provides a new tool to address these challenges directly in the RF domain.

Why linearization matters in W-band radar

In radar front-ends:

Non-linear PA behavior degrades spectral purity
Distortion limits usable output power
AM-PM errors impact waveform fidelity and calibration stability

These effects directly influence:

Detection range
Resolution
False-target performance
Calibration effort
Benefits of APD

Better radar performance without increasing hardware complexity. Using APD in W-band radar front-ends can:

Increase usable transmit power
Improve linearity across sweep bandwidth
Enhance waveform fidelity
Support higher-performance radar modes without redesigning the PA
APD for Radar-Centric Architectures

Gotmic’s APD is integrates naturally into radar transmit chains, supporting, FMCW radar, pulsed radar, and advanced modulation or coded waveforms. The APD:

Pre-conditions the signal before amplification
Reduces distortion products generated by the PA
Improves stability across operating conditions
Complementary to Radar Calibration

APD does not replace radar calibration—it reduces its burden. By stabilizing PA behavior calibration becomes more predictable, sensitivity to temperature and bias drift is reduced and system margins improve.

Typical Applications
Defense radar systems
Security and surveillance radar
Advanced imaging and sensing

Improve radar performance without redesigning your PA.
